History of Drusy Quartz

No one has been able to tell about the exact origin of the term “Quartz”. But the discussions have led to two opinions which have been unanimously accepted. These are that the word “Quartz” has been derived from Greek word “Krystallos” which means ice.

The primitive equipment belonging to the earliest times which were developed by humans around 2.4 million years ago and found in the valley of Omo in Ethiopia used to be made up of quartz. It’s often believed that quartz was employed due to its toughness as well as brittleness which made the development of the tools easy relatively.

The chipped flint points which were employed for making fire were found on the sites of Mousterian in Western Europe which dates back approximately 40k years.

Recently there has been some major development of synthetic Drusy Quartz during the World-War-II. This quartz was employed for supplying the crystals for making radios.

Now, quartz is not just used as gemstone, but it is also used as raw chemicals for manufacturing cements, abrasives, concrete, glass, porcelain as well as other industrial substances.

Due to its pyroelectric as well as piezoelectric properties, it is used commonly for producing clocks, watches, radios as well as computers.

Drusy Quartz is considered to energise as well as stabilize the body as well as aura enhancing creativity.

Availability of Drusy quartz

Quartz is the most abundantly found mineral. It comprises of approximately 12% of earth’s crust. It occurs in different metamorphic, sedimentary and igneous rocks. The most abundantly found Drusy is Quartz. High quality Drusy is very rarely found. Especially the non quartz species were even more rarely found.

Sources for Drusy quartz

Drusy occurs within the interiors of the geodes of quartz.

Evaluation of Drusy quartz

Drusy quartz has been rated 7 on the Moh’s scale of hardness. It is perfect for making brooches, pendants as well as earrings. But it is not suitable for making bracelets or rings due to the concern of quartz being detached.

Drusy is a stone which has a natural texture of surface just like fine crystals of sugar which are formed on the quartz by the process of micros crystalline facets several thousand years ago.

Drusy crystals weren’t noticed in the jewelery industry till recently when they started appearing in the work of carvers as well as jewellery designers. Its appeal has now started growing as it depicts multitude crystals with a reflection on the surface which looks like snow or sugar.

The evenness as well as the size of the crystals’ coverage is significant value-factors while determining the worth as well as quality of Drusy items.

Common cuts

The cut and shape of  Drusy depends mainly on the variety of quartz which it has formed on.

Routine enhancements
Drusy quartz is dyed often for enhancing its overall beauty as well as appearance. Additionally, some of the varieties are even given a coating of titanium. This creates a beautiful iridescent finish. It looks sparkling and a beautiful stone.
